At Shogun Judo & BJJ, our classes are led by an elite team of highly skilled black belt instructors, each bringing decades of experience, championship accolades, and an unwavering commitment to the art. With a combined 100+ years of judo expertise, our instructors are not only masters of the craft but also dedicated mentors who uphold the highest standards of training and safety.
All instructors maintain black belt ranks in good standing with USA Judo, the governing body of judo in the U.S. They hold national coaching certifications, adhere to SafeSport guidelines, and are trained in CDC Heads Up Concussion protocols and USADA regulations. Many are also certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid, with several serving as national referees, Olympic Committee members, and high-level coaches.

Sensei Yahya Houssni
Godan (5th Degree Black Belt)
Owner & Head Coach
Born in Rabat, Morocco, Sensei Yahya Houssni began his judo journey at the age of 7, dedicating over four decades to the sport. A former Moroccan National Team member and internationally certified coach, he has competed, coached, and mentored at the highest levels.

Sensei Yahya’s passion for judo extends beyond competition. His goal is to inspire and develop students of all ages, helping them achieve success both on and off the tatami.
Sensei Jeff Sitzler
Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt)
A native Arizonian, Sensei Jeff Sitzler began training in judo at just 8 years old, learning from renowned instructors Sensei Tom Palen and Sensei Tawni McBee. With over 35 years of experience, he has competed at the highest levels and continues to share his knowledge with the next generation of judoka.
- Junior National Kata Champion alongside his brother, Tom
- Senior Competitor at Phoenix Grappling Center, earning the nickname “TomCat” for his incredible ability to escape throws mid-air
- 7th Place Finisher at the World University Championships in Moscow (2004)
Now a father, Sensei Jeff is passionate about passing on his love for judo to his son, Aden, and guiding students toward their full potential.
Sensei Adam Houssni
Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt)
Adam Houssni began his judo journey at the young age of 4. By the time he was 8, he had already won his first national title, setting the stage for a successful competitive career. Over the years, he has claimed numerous victories at local, state, regional, and national tournaments, establishing himself as a disciplined judoka.
At 15, Adam started giving back to the sport by assisting in teaching, gaining valuable experience as an instructor. Now, at 19 years old, he is responsible for coaching the U/8 class, guiding young judokas in their early development. In 2022, he earned his Shodan (1st-degree black belt), marking a significant milestone in his judo career.
His journey reflects both his dedication as a competitor and his commitment to passing on his knowledge to the next generation of judokas.
